HICKSVILLE -- Donald D. Haver, 82, Hicksville, died Monday, September 24, 2012, at Community Memorial Hospital, Hicksville.
He was born on April 11, 1930, in Mark Center, Ohio, the son of Jess and Erma (Bernard) Haver. On May 11, 1956, he was united in marriage to Mary Herzer. Donald served his country in the U.S. Navy serving during the Korean and Vietnam wars. He retired from the Navy after 21 years.
He worked for ARA as food service director in various local hospitals. Donald was a member of Masonic Lodge 478 of Hicksville, Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite Valley of Toledo and Zenobia Shriners, Perryburg, Ohio. He enjoyed life, yard work and visiting casinos. He loved his family, people and his dog, Levi.
Donald is survived by his wife, Mary; daughters, Dawn (Tom) Thatcher of Mark Center, Ohio, and DeAnn (Greg) Robie of Holland, Ohio; a grandson, Gavin Robie; siblings, Lois Gump, Charles (Maxine) Haver, Max (Virginia) Haver, Dorothy (Ed) Teague, Margaret Sailer, Lynn (Susie) Haver and Carolyn (Phil) Miller, all of Hicksville and Sherwood, Ohio; and sister-in-law, Betty Haver of Woodburn, Indiana.
He was preceded in death by siblings, Alvin Robert Haver, Katherine Fisher, Richard Haver and Bernard Haver.
Services for Donald will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Smith & Brown Funeral Home, Hicksville. Visitation will be Thursday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. There will be a Masonic service at 7 p.m. Burial will be in Lost Creek Cemetery, Hicksville, with military honors accorded by Sherwood VFW Post.
