HICKSVILLE -- Robert L. Volkert, 80, died Monday, September 17, 2012, at Community Memorial Hospital, Hicksville.
He was born on February 18, 1932, in Hicksville, the son of Guy and Opal Volkert. Bob was a 1950 graduate of Hicksville High School. On August 18, 1962, he was united in marriage to Marlene Goss, and she preceded him in death. Bob served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was a rural mail carrier for 11 years and was a life-long farmer.
Bob was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Hicksville, Tri-State Two Cylinder Club, Masonic Lodge 478 of Hicksville, Northwesternaires Barbershop Chorus and a lifetime member of the VFW.
He is survived by a son, Mike (Bridgett Watson) Volkert of Hicksville; a daughter, Vicki (Roger) Gatchell of Leo, Indiana; granddaughters, Katy, Allison, Olivia, Abby Gatchell; a sister, EllaJane (Dennis) Stuckey of Hicksville; and a brother, Jim (Donna) Volkert of Delaware, Ohio.
Preceding Bob in death were his parents and his wife.
Funeral services will be Thursday at 3 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church, Hicksville, with visitation one hour prior to the service. Pastor Ric Beals will officiate. Visitation will be today from 4-8 p.m. at the church. Burial will be in Forest Home Cemetery, Hicksville.
