Wayne E. Vogelsong, 89, of Defiance, passed away on August 30, 2012, at the Bryan Care and Rehabilitation Center, Bryan, Ohio.

He was born on June 23, 1923, to Lawrence and Nettie (Donley) Vogelsong in Fort Wayne, Ind. He married Leota M. Rath on June 20, 1968, and she passed away on October 26, 2008.

Surviving him are a son, Michael Vogelsong of Apache, Okla.; daughters, Deb (Robert) Smith of Defiance, Diane (Bob) Schaper of Woodburn, Ind., Julie (Branko) Mijatovich of New Haven, Ind; two daughters-in-law, Shirley Hohenbrink and Jennie Vogelsong, Defiance; step-daughters, Linda Larson of Defiance, Karen (Dale) Hosler of Chase, Mich., Nancy Bauer of Minster, Cathy (Russell) Steffel of Defiance; many grandchildren and great grandchildren; a brother, Paul (Jean) Vogelsong of Defiance; a sister, Doris (Ed) Antoine of Cecil and his canine companion "Buffy".

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; sons, Robert, Roger, and Daniel Vogelsong; a brother, Roger Vogelsong; a sister, Donna Keys and a granddaughter.

Wayne was a WWII U.S. Navy veteran having received the Bronze Star. He was a member of VFW Post 3360, Eagles and Amvets. He was a car salesman for several dealerships in the area.

Visitation will be held on Monday, Sept. 3, from 3-6 p.m. at Hanenkrath-Clevenger-Schaffer Funeral Home, Defiance, Ohio. A mass of Christian burial will be held on Sept. 4, 2012, at 11 a.m. at St. Isadore's Catholic Church, Delaware Bend, with Father Robert Kill officiating.

Burial will take place in the St. Stephen's Cemetery, Delaware Bend, where military rites will be accorded by VFW Post 3360. Memorials are suggested to the CHWC Hospice or to a charity of the donor's choice.
