NAPOLEON -- Genevieve "Sweetgrass" Eicher, 88, of Napoleon, Ohio, passed away Thursday, August 30, 2012, at her home.

She was a Wyandot Elder, a librarian at the Ridgeville Public Schools, local historian, genealogist, freelance writer and researcher. Genevieve was also known internationally for her research on the underground Rail Road. She loved to travel and was a member of the Order of Eastern Star, Napoleon, Ohio, American Legion Post #454 Auxiliary and VFW Auxiliary in Napoleon, Ohio. Genevieve will be greatly missed by her faithful companion "Buddy".

Surviving to cherish her memory is her daughters, Cathie Shaffer and Lee "Savannah" Eicher; sister, Virginia Turner, six grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents, daughter, Lynn Parrish, eight brothers and three sisters.

Family and friends will be received on Tuesday, Sept. 4, 2012, from 2-8 p.m. at the Wright-Habegger Funeral Home, 24084 W. Second St., Grand Rapids, with an Order of the Eastern Star service at 6:30 p.m. Funeral services will take place on Wednesday, Sept. 5, at 10 a.m. at the funeral home and burial will follow at Locust Grove Cemetery, Ridgeville Corners, Ohio.
