Joanne E. McDowell, 77, of Defiance, passed away Thursday, February 2, 2012, at CHP Defiance Area In-Patient Hospice Center.

Born in Stryker, Ohio, on May 5, 1934, she was the daughter of the late James and Evelyn (Grubbs) Warner. On August 7, 1954, Joanne married Jerry McDowell, who survives. She was a 1952 graduate of Stryker High School where she was head majorette for all four years. She worked as secretary for the Johns Manville plant manager and then worked at St. John's Catholic Church School as the auxiliary service clerk for 22 years. She was also a member of St. John's Catholic Church. Joanne enjoyed playing bridge and helped with the lady Elk activities.

Besides her loving husband of 57 years, Jerry, surviving are two daughters, Dawn McDowell of Hilliard, Ohio, Lori (Scott) Noelcke of Cincinnati, Ohio; and a son, Scott (Debra) McDowell of San Diego, California. She is also survived by five grandchildren, Hannah McDowell, Rachel McDowell, Sarah McDowell, Jack Noelcke and Kate Noelcke.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. John's Catholic Church at 11 a.m. on Monday, February 6, with Father Todd Dominique officiating. Friends are invited to call Sunday from 2-6 p.m. at Lawson-Roessner Funeral Home, Defiance, with a 5 p.m. vigil service Sunday. Burial will be in St. Michael's Cemetery.
