Rita Niese

MILLER CITY -- Rita M. Niese, 91, died at 8:15 a.m. Monday, January 30, 2012, at the Meadows of Kalida.

She was born July 11, 1920, in Glandorf, to the late Charles and Margaret (Kerner) Meyer. On January 10, 1948, she married Harold E. Niese, who died December 10, 1978.

Survivors include her children, Kenneth (Janet) Niese of Miller City, Dolores (Jim) Long of Miller City, Marlene (Steve) Lahey of Ottawa, Carolyn (Gary) Oberhaus of Miller City, Dennis (Karen) Niese of Miller City, Ruth (Al) Stechschulte of Glandorf, and Roger (Cheryl) Niese of Miller City; 22 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; a great-stepgrandchild; a great-great-stepgrandchild; a sister, Gertrude Knueven of Leipsic; and three sisters-in-law, Mary Meyer of Leipsic, Thelma Westrick of Holgate and Frances Meyer of Glandorf.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Sharon Niese; three brothers, Urban, Norbert, and Cletus Meyer; and a sister and brother-in-law, Cecilia (Gus) Hermiller.

Rita was a homemaker and volunteered at the Meadows of O-G and Putnam Acres Care Center in Ottawa. She was a member of St. John the Baptist Church in Glandorf, its Altar Rosary Society, Catholic Ladies of Columbia, Senior Citizens, and Kitchen Band. She was an honorary member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles. She enjoyed polka dances and playing cards with family and friends that visited with her.

Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10 a.m. Friday, February 3, 2012, at St. Nicholas Catholic Church, Miller City, with Father Jerry Knueven and Father Steve Schroeder officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday and 2-8 p.m. Thursday at Love Funeral Home, Ottawa, where a scripture service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday.
