SWANTON -- Richard John Mack Sr., 88, of Swanton, Ohio, passed away peacefully with his devoted son, Richard Jr., at his bedside, Friday evening, January 27, 2012, at Hospice of Northwest Ohio in Toledo.
He was born October 13, 1923, in Defiance, Ohio, to Frederick John Mack and Rose Kathryn Agnes Wilhelm-Mack. He graduated from Defiance High School and attended Ohio State University. He was employed at A&P as a meat cutter, and held several positions as a product representative, the last of which was for the Teatley Tea Company. The remainder of his career was spent with 25-plus years as a food brokerage salesman for the Harold M. Lincoln Food Brokerage Company. Richard was a veteran of World War II, serving in Patton's 43rd Armored Division in Austria. He was a sports fan of the Ohio State Buckeyes and the Toledo Rockets.
Surviving are a past wife, Patricia Keefe-Mack; his daughters, Kathryn Rose Theresa Mack, and Mary Patt Mack of St. Louis, Mo.; and a son, Richard J. Mack, Jr. of the Toledo, Ohio, area. Also surviving are two sisters, Kathleen Coffman of Pemberville, Ohio, and Patricia Lang of Sturgis, Mich.; as well as nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death were his parents; three sisters, Rosemary Mack, Rita Nagley and Dorothy Bachelor; and a brother, Frederick Karl Mack.
Family and friends may visit Tuesday, January 31, from 10-10:20 a.m. at the Weigel Funeral Home, 204 Chestnut St. in Swanton (419-826-2631). Prayers will be recited at 10:20 a.m. in the funeral home, followed by a Mass of Resurrection at 11 a.m. at Holy Trinity (Immaculate Conception) Catholic Church at Marygrove, 1750 N. Raab Road in Swanton, with Fathers Thomas Leland and Ron Schock officiating. Interment with military rites will follow at Marygrove Cemetery.
