SHERWOOD -- Junior L. Hellemn, 86, died peacefully with his family by his side at 5:30 a.m. Saturday, January 28, 2010, at the Community Health Professionals Defiance Area In-Patient Hospice Center.
Junior was born February 18, 1925, the son of Louis and Ella (Ankney) Hellemn. He was united in marriage to Edna Miller on January 15, 1949, and together had recently observed their 63rd wedding anniversary. He was a long-standing member of St. John Lutheran Church, Sherwood, Ohio, holding the office of deacon for many years and serving on the finance committee. Junior served his country in the 13th Armored Division during World War II and was a lifetime VFW member.
Junior owned and operated Lockwood Garage since 1958. He enjoyed the mechanical trade and loved vacationing in Florida, playing guitar in dance bands, fishing and spending time with friends and family.
Surviving are his wife, Edna; son, Robert of Sherwood; daughter, Elaine (Daniel) Mangas of Lake Seneca, Ohio; a granddaughter, Joni (Kirby) Kime; three stepgrandchildren; three great-stepgrandchildren; and a sister, Laverne Wirth of Bryan, Ohio.
Preceding Junior in death were his parents; a daughter, Ella Louise; a sister, Opal Hartman; and two brothers, Vernon and Galen Hellemn.
Funeral services will be Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. at St. John Lutheran Church, Sherwood, Ohio, with Pastor Mark DeLassus officiating. Visitation will be Tuesday from 2-8 p.m. at Smith & Brown Funeral Home, Hicksville, and one hour prior to service at the church. Burial will be in St. John Lutheran Church Cemetery, Sherwood, Ohio.
