SHERWOOD -- Geraldine Schroeder, 96, of Sherwood, passed away Monday, January 23, 2012, at Hickory Creek Nursing Home, Hicksville, Ohio.

Also known as Gerry, she was born September 13, 1915, in Farmer Township, to the late Claude and Della Maude (Fickle) Conkey. She was a graduate of Farmer High School. Gerry married Delbert Peter Schroeder on February 14, 1942, and he preceded her in death on July 13, 2000. A devoted homemaker and mother, Geraldine was an accomplished seamstress. She was known for her knitting and crocheting all around the area. She enjoyed making clothing and other handmade items for her family. She was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, Sherwood.

Surviving are her daughter, Claudia (Edward) Sowers of Hicksville; two sons, Darwin (Nancy) Schroeder of Mark Center and James (Carol) Schroeder of Edgerton; nine grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Delbert; daughter, Idella Marie Schroeder; brother, Lynn Dwight Conkey; sister, Beulah Conkey; and two great-grandchildren, Emily E. Vandermark and Ava-Rai Powell.

Visitation for Mrs. Geraldine "Gerry" Schroeder will be held Thursday, January 26, 2012, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. in the Oberlin-Turnbull Funeral Home, 230 East Elm Street, Sherwood, Ohio. Funeral services will be held Friday, January 27, 2012, at 10:30 a.m. in the St. John Lutheran Church, 09088 Openlander Road, Sherwood, with Pastor Mark DeLassus officiating. Interment will follow in St. John Lutheran Church Cemetery. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service on Friday at the church.
