Harry Orval Schomburg, 80, of Defiance, formerly of Antwerp, passed away January 12, 2012, at CHP Defiance Area In-Patient Hospice Center.

Harry was born January 8, 1932, in Defiance County, a son of the late Oscar and Inez (VanVlerah) Schomburg. He graduated from Ayersville High School in 1950, served in the U.S. Marines during the Korean Conflict and was a member of the Defiance Elks and Eagles and the Antwerp American Legion Post. He was a former dispatcher at Dinner Bell Meats in Defiance, Ohio, and drove semi-truck in California. Harry was a member of Defiance Christian Church.

He will be sadly missed by his sons, Mark of Oklahoma, Thomas (Valerie) of California, Jerome (Renee) of California, David (Connie) of Hicksville and Timothy (Ida) Florida; siblings, Thelma Frost and Laura Peffley of Defiance, Robert (Sylvia) of New Mexico and Rickey (Carol) Schomburg, Arizona; special friend, Etta Rister, Defiance; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren; and dog, Missy.

Preceding him in death were his wife of 25 years, Stella Rister, who died December 23, 2006; three sons, Dennis, James & Joseph; sisters, Beverly Land and Frances; and brothers, Ronald (Margie), Harold and Roger (Dorothy).

Viewing is at Dooley Funeral Home, Antwerp, on Monday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. His funeral service is at Defiance Christian Church, Tuesday, at 11 a.m., with viewing one hour prior. He will be laid to rest at Maumee Cemetery, Antwerp.
