John A. Schindler, 76, Defiance, passed away Friday, January 6, 2012, at Tampa General Hospital in Tampa, Florida.
He was born in New Bavaria, Ohio, on November 10, 1935, to the late Alphonse and Mary (Samuhel) Schindler. John married Essie Powell in 1968, and she survives. They spent their winters in Florida. John also enjoyed woodworking and playing cards, especially euchre. He retired as a machinist at Johns Manville.
Besides his loving wife, Essie, surviving are his beloved daughters, Laura (Tom) Kestner of Grelton, Ohio, Karen (Ron) Tobias of Defiance, Kelly (Leon) Watts of Tampa, Florida; a son, Tom (Jean) Lewis of Defiance; sisters, Mary (Delno) Straka of Defiance, Joan (Dick) Rittenour of Defiance, Terry (Bob) Brenner of Defiance and Ann (Ken) Sweinhagen of Defiance. He is also survived by eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
His loving family gave him much comfort and joy.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Ronny John Schindler; and two brothers, Paul Schindler and Jim Schindler.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Wednesday, at St. John Catholic Church. Friends are invited to call from 2-8 p.m. Tuesday at the Lawson-Roessner Funeral Home, Defiance, with a scripture service at 7 p.m. Tuesday. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery.
