Shooting leaves man dead, probation officer hurt

COLUMBUS (AP) -- Columbus police say a man was killed and a central Ohio probation officer was wounded in an exchange of gunfire as officers tried to take the man into custody while serving a warrant for a probation violation.

Police say two officers from the Franklin County Adult Probation Department tried to serve the warrant Thursday morning and take 37-year-old Tyshawn Hancock into custody.

Police say he lunged for a gun and assaulted an officer when they found him in a bedroom.

Hancock and an officer were shot and were taken to a hospital, where Hancock was pronounced dead. No one else was hurt.

Police say multiple guns found at the home were taken into evidence.

Police didn't release the name or condition of the injured officer.
