Southeast Ohio man gets life in slaying of father


ATHENS, Ohio (AP) -- A southeast Ohio man has been sentenced to life in prison for killing his father with a blow to the head and dumping his body under a porch last year.

By pleading guilty in court in Athens Wednesday, 41-year-old Paul J Roberts will be eligible for parole after serving 20 years.

The Athens Messenger ( ) reports that Roberts pleaded guilty to aggravated murder, gross abuse of a corpse and other charges in the slaying of his 63-year-old father, Paul E. Roberts, at the elder Roberts' home in Glouster in October.

The father's body was found in a well under his porch.

The younger Roberts said during a jailhouse interview that he hit his father in the head with a pipe after the older man stepped toward him with a knife.
