COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) -- A central Ohio man who has been sentenced to 22 years in prison for fatally beating his grandmother says he doesn't remember the attack.
Timothy J. Smith pleaded guilty Monday to involuntary manslaughter, felonious assault and tampering with evidence in the death of 77-year-old Doris Durette.
The Columbus Dispatch (http://bit.ly/ICCHrB ) reports that the 35-year-old Smith told a judge that he doesn't remember much after arguing with his grandmother about his daughter.
Smith served as his grandmother's caregiver. He called 911 on Aug. 4 to report that she wasn't breathing. He told the dispatcher that she had fallen and hit her head the night before in the condo they shared.
Authorities determined she'd been fatally beaten, and Smith was the only one with her.
