DAYTON, Ohio (AP) -- Officials at a southwest Ohio airport plan to use a camera surveillance project to monitor coyotes nearby, hoping to determine better strategies to keep them off the runways.
The Dayton Daily News (http://bit.ly/VUeRx3 ) reports the city has approved spending $20,000 on the six-month, high-resolution camera project at Dayton International Airport. The camera is to be used only to monitor wildlife in the area.
The airport is protected by 10-foot-high fencing that has kept away deer. But coyotes and foxes still pose a problem, possibly by slipping under the fence.
Director of Aviation Terry Slaybaugh says a coyote found dead on a runway last year apparently had been hit by an aircraft.
