MONROE TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) -- Authorities say a pickup truck hit two women who were standing in a southeast Michigan roadway, killing one of the pedestrians and critically injuring the other.
The Monroe County sheriff's department says 18-year-old Elizabeth J. Winter of Monroe died at the scene of Tuesday night's crash in Monroe Township, about 35 miles southwest of Detroit. The department says 29-year-old Nicole M. Holt of Monroe was in critical condition at a hospital in Toledo, Ohio.
Investigators say the truck was driven by a 57-year-old Monroe man. He wasn't injured. It wasn't immediately known why the women were in the roadway.
The crash is under investigation.
