DAYTON, Ohio (AP) -- Authorities say a woman who drove her van into a river in western Ohio was rescued after calling for help on her cellphone as the vehicle drifted in the water.

WHIO-TV (http://bit.ly/TxCVSP ) reports that Tonya Jacobs drove the van into the Great Miami River Thursday evening. Rescue officials said the van was filling with water when she pulled out her cellphone and called for help.

Rescue crews launched a boat to reach the vehicle, which was 30 to 40 feet from the shore in shallow water. Jacobs was taken to a hospital where she was reported to be in fair condition.

Authorities said she was in the frigid water for about 10 minutes. They don't know yet how the van ended up in the river.
