Police say Ohio man escaped car driven in quarry

MIDDLE POINT, Ohio (AP) -- Authorities in northwest Ohio say a man who was kidnapped and stabbed escaped from his car after it was driven into a quarry and began sinking.

Investigators tell The Lima News (http://bit.ly/GHYSXx ) that the man likely held his breath for at least two minutes and escaped through the car's back window that broke when the vehicle hit the bottom of the quarry.

It all happened in a rural area near the Ohio-Indiana state line on Sunday.

Van Wert County Sheriff Stan Owens says Daniel Hemker of Middle Point told investigators that two men broke into his home while he was sleeping and kidnapped him.

Hemker managed to walk two miles to his home after escaping the sinking car. He was treated at a hospital for the stab wound and released.
