CANTON, Ohio (AP) -- The Cleveland Cavaliers' new NBA Development League team is getting ready for its home opener in northeast Ohio.
Basketball fans eager to see action while the NBA is sidelined by a labor dispute can watch the Canton Charge on Friday night. The team faces the defending league champion Iowa Energy at Canton Memorial Civic Center.
Cavaliers director of player personnel Wes Wilcox was chosen as Canton's general manager. Wilcox tells The Repository newspaper (http://bit.ly/vTaWmD ) the team wants to put together a competitive group of developing players that fans will enjoy watching.
The team leaders who emerged during the preseason include point guard and Canton native Keith McLeod.
Asked about goals for the season, head coach Alex Jensen said he was taking a day-to-day approach and focusing on the opener.
