Puppy spotted on boxcar rescued, finds new home

LIBERTY, S.C. (AP) -- A black Labrador puppy has a new home in South Carolina after being rescued from the top of a freight train.

Tina Parker says she and her family were in their car at a train crossing Sunday night when they saw the small dog moving around on a boxcar. She called 911 and followed the train for about six miles.

A Norfolk Southern spokeswoman says they stopped the train, which was going about 50 mph from Pennsylvania to Atlanta. No one knows how the dog ended up there.

The Parker family helped firefighters find the car and they used a ladder to reach the pup. She has an upcoming appointment with a veterinarian, but appears healthy and happy.

Her new name is Boxcar Hunter, or Boxy for short.
