County moves road away from military base

Published:

SPRINGFIELD (AP) -- Officials say a $3 million project to relocate a road away from a military base is necessary for security reasons and will help keep the facility open.

The Dayton Daily News reports that moving the road away from the Springfield Air National Guard base is necessary to satisfy post-9/11 military security standards. Officials say moving the 1.4 miles of Ohio 794 will help keep the base open and preserve the jobs there. It is estimated that the base has an annual economic impact of $95.2 million in Springfield, east of Dayton.

The money for the road relocation includes more than $2.9 million in federal funding and about $726,000 in state money.
