JEFFERSON (AP) -- The county prosecutor's office is considering bringing criminal charges against a 16-year-old boy who brought an explosive to classes at the Ashtabula County Technical and Career Center.
The (Ashtabula) Star Beacon reports that authorities say dynamite was found in the boy's backpack last Friday after another student alerted school administrators. Deputies say the boy told a student he might detonate it in auto mechanics class.
The boy, who lives in Geneva Township, was suspended for 10 days and could be expelled from school. He says he stuck the device in his backpack some time ago, intending to "blow stuff up" after school with a friend. He says he never intended to use it in school.
The device was given to the Lake County Bomb Squad for disposal.
