COLUMBUS - The Norwalk senior duo of Ben Haraway and Jeff Thomas each poured in 20 points, helping the Truckers (28-1) to rally past Dayton Thurgood Marshall (22-6) in a Division II state semifinal victory on Thursday, 72-64.
Thomas, a Georgia State commit, netted 15 of his 20 points in the final 16 minutes of the contest while adding nine boards (six offensive) to pace the Truckers inside. Haraway added eight assists in the victory for Norwalk, who is making their first state tournament appearance in program history.
Thurgood Marshall, in their third trip to the state tournament in the last six seasons, were paced by senior Rachaun Martin (15 points) and the dynamic sophomore twosome of 6-8 Derrick Daniels (13 points, 14 rebounds) and Darnell Hoskins, Jr., who added 12 tallies. Hoskins Jr. is the son of Cougar head coach Darnell Hoskins, Sr.
Norwalk will face the victor of the other D-II state semifinal between defending state champion Columbus Bishop Watterson (25-2) and Akron St. Vincent-St. Mary (19-9) in a rematch of last year’s Division II state championship game.
