CINCINNATI (AP) -- A southwest Ohio teen convicted in the death of a 16-year-old boy who died nine days after being body-slammed to the ground is set to be released from jail on Saturday after serving a 54-day sentence.
Now 18-year-old Lance Tiernan's lawyer says the remorseful young man just wants to get his life back together.
Prosecutors had charged Tiernan with murder in the death of 16-year-old Anthony Parker that could have meant a sentence of life in prison.
But a jury disagreed that Tiernan had meant to seriously harm Parker and found him guilty of the lesser charge of involuntary manslaughter.
Tiernan assaulted Parker on Dec. 19 at a group home for troubled youths. Parker later was taken to a hospital, where he died Dec. 28 of head injuries.
