State trooper dies in W. Pa. crash

SOUTH BEAVER, Pa. (AP) -- A state trooper has died after a crash in Western Pennsylvania.

Authorities say Trooper Blake T. Coble was on patrol just after 10 a.m. Thursday when he was involved in a crash with a tractor-trailer near the Ohio border, about 40 miles northwest of Pittsburgh.

Coble had been a trooper since 1998, and his wife is a communications operator at Troop D in Beaver, which is also where Coble was stationed.

Police Commissioner Frank Noonan says in a statement that 48-year-old Coble "died serving the people of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania."

Noonan says Coble was the 94th member of the state police to die in the line of duty.

An investigation of the crash is ongoing.
