YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (AP) -- A northeast Ohio area will receive $1 million in grants from Wal-Mart thanks to a national Facebook campaign aimed at fighting hunger.

The retailer announced Tuesday that the Youngstown-Warren area took the top spot in votes by Facebook users as part of a national campaign to fight hunger. Toledo was one of 20 communities receiving the next highest votes to qualify for $50,000 each in grants.

The 200 communities included in the online voting were selected from a U.S. Department of Labor list that shows communities around the country with the highest rates of unemployment.

The retailer says the Youngstown-Warren area received more than 98,000 votes out of more than 396,000 cast.

Wal-Mart expects to announce on May 15 which organizations in those communities will get the funding.
