COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) -- The father of a soldier killed in 2005 who belonged to an Ohio-based unit that lost 22 Marines and a Navy Corpsman in Iraq says he believes communities will come together to support the families of the three Ohio National Guard soldiers killed in Afghanistan.
Chuck Hoffman says he's confident people will unite the same way they united to mourn his son, Sgt. Justin Hoffman, and the other Lima Company unit members killed. Fifteen of the 23 were from Ohio.
Three soldiers of the 37th Infantry Brigade Combat Team were killed Wednesday in a suicide bomb attack in Maimanah, the capital of Faryab province. Four other soldiers of the same unit were injured. At least 13 people died.
