Fire at NE Ohio house sends 6 people to hospitals

CANTON, Ohio (AP) -- Officials say four residents and two firefighters were taken to hospitals after a fire that began on the porch of a northeast Ohio home and spread through the building.

They say a 61-year-old man and his 62-year-old wife were in critical condition Monday at an Akron hospital after the fire at their home in nearby Canton late Sunday. Their 41-year-old daughter was reported in serious condition. A 19-year-old man who jumped from the roof of the home was treated and released.

Two firefighters also were treated and released. The department wouldn't say why they needed treatment.

Firefighters say the blaze killed several rabbits. About two dozen rabbits that were in the basement survived and were taken to a humane society.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
