YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (AP) -- Officials say up to 2,000 gallons of diesel fuel may have spilled into a Youngstown sewer system when a tanker truck overturned on a highway ramp.
The Vindicator newspaper (http://bit.ly/zzHX5A ) reports the crash happened Tuesday evening on a ramp along busy Interstate 680.
It blocked the interstate and nearby ramps for hours. Two ramps along the highway were expected to remain closed for part of Wednesday.
Fuel leaked from the truck's punctured tank into a sewage drain. A public works department official says the city used thousands of gallons of water to dilute the spilled fuel.
Several nearby residents reported smelling gas, and fire officials said one home briefly caught fire after its basement filled with fumes.
The truck driver was taken to a hospital and was in stable condition.
