Kings in dispute with city over arena costs

The Sacramento Kings say they are still committed to building a new arena in California's capital city despite disagreements over part of the funding.

Co-owner George Maloof said in a phone interview Friday that he does not believe the team should pay $3.2 million in pre-development costs for the estimated $391 million downtown arena. Maloof says this is an issue that needs to be resolved but he doesn't believe it will hold up the deal.

Mayor Kevin Johnson says the city expects the Maloofs to "live up to their commitments" that they made when the parties agreed to the arena deal in February.

The NBA is covering about $200,000 in pre-development costs until the Board of Governors meet April 12-13 to discuss the plan.
