Urawa beats J-League champ Kashiwa Reysol 1-0

SAITAMA, Japan (AP) -- Serbian striker Ranko Despotovic scored in the first half as Urawa Reds beat defending J-League champions Kashiwa Reysol 1-0 on Saturday.

Despotovic beat Kashiwa goalkeeper Takanori Sugeno in the 36th minute to give host Urawa its first win under Serbian coach Mihailo Petrovic.

Elsewhere, Shingo Akamine scored late in the first half and Yoshiaki Ota doubled the lead in the 53rd minute to lift Vegalta Sendai to a 2-0 win at Yokohama F Marinos.

Brazilian Renato scored in first-half injury time as Kawasaki Frontale beat Kashima Antlers 1-0 away, while Cerezo Osaka defeated crosstown rivals Gamba Osaka 2-1 on a 94th-minute strike by Brazilian Kempes.

Omiya Ardija also beat Albirex Niigata 2-1, courtesy of second-half goals from Kosuke Kikuchi and Brazilian Rafael.
