PALM HARBOR, Fla. (AP) -- Retief Goosen's back hurt so badly that he pulled out of next week's tournament to get treatment. Then he shot a 6-under 65 on Saturday for a chance to win this week.
Goosen ran off three straight birdies late in his round and finished atop the leaderboard with Jim Furyk, setting up a shootout at The Transitions Championship between a pair of past champions -- and several others.
Furyk three-putted up a ridge for double on the 18th hole for a 66 to fall into a tie. He and Goosen were at 11-under 202, one shot ahead of Jason Dufner and Sang-moon Bae, who was leading until a triple bogey on the 16th hole.
Goosen still is not eligible for the Masters. Sunday will be his last chance to qualify.
