Evans, Thorpe among big names attempting comebacks

This is the Year of the Comeback in swimming.

Janet Evans and Ian Thorpe are the biggest names attempting to qualify for the London Games after long layoffs, but they're hardly alone. U.S. Olympic medalists Brendan Hansen, Anthony Ervin and Ed Moses have returned to the water, along with former Australian stars Libby Trickett, Michael Klim and Geoff Huegill.

Most eyes are on Evans and Thorpe, two of the greatest swimmers ever.

The "Thorpedo" is facing a make-or-break week at the Aussie national trials. His results haven't been encouraging, and Thorpe concedes his chances of making the Olympics aren't good.

The 40-year-old Evans still has three more months to prepare for the U.S. trials in Omaha, Neb. She's training six days a week while juggling two young children at home.
