Out of Bounds injured, off Triple Crown trail

INGLEWOOD, Calif. (AP) -- Trainer Eoin Harty says Kentucky Derby hopeful Out of Bounds won't make the race because of a leg injury that will require surgery.

Out of Bounds won the Sham Stakes on Jan. 7 at Santa Anita and was scheduled to run in the San Felipe Stakes on Saturday.

Harty said Monday that the colt had "an exceptional workout" in the morning at Hollywood Park, but about 20 minutes into the colt's cooling out period Harty noticed something was wrong.

The trainer says Out of Bounds has a condylar fracture of the left front cannon bone and will have surgery in the next few days. He says the colt's prognosis is excellent.

Harty says he expects the colt to be out at least 90 days. The Derby is May 5.
