LISBON, Portugal (AP) -- Joao Tomas scored twice to lead Rio Ave to a 4-0 thrashing of Beira Mar on Sunday to move four points clear of the relegation zone in the Portuguese league.
Tomas opened the scoring for the hosts from the penalty spot in the 32nd minute after the striker was fouled by Beira Mar's Cassio.
Midfielder Bruno China made it 2-0 with a header in the 58th. Vazalde Gomes added another in the 77th before Tomas capped the win with his second goal four minutes from the finish.
Also on Sunday, it was: Gil Vicente 1, Pacos Ferreira 2; Feirense 1, Academica 1; and Guimaraes 1, Maritimo 0.
Olhanense visits last-place Leiria on Monday.
