Quentin happy to be home in San Diego

PEORIA, Ariz. (AP) -- Carlos Quentin enjoys his offseason workouts in San Diego. Now he hopes to carry that feeling over to the regular season.

A former prep baseball star at University of San Diego High, Quentin was traded to the Padres from the Chicago White Sox on Dec. 31 for two minor league pitchers. A two-time All-Star, Quentin hit .254 with 24 homers and 77 RBIs in 118 games for the White Sox last season.

"It's good to be home with my friends and my family," Quentin said. "I have great offseasons in San Diego and really enjoy my time there. I'm hoping to blend that in to my inseason. I think that's always been an ultimate goal of mine and I think it's going to give me the environment to do well."

The Padres hope Quentin can add punch to their offense.
