Nats LaRoche having trouble throwing, not hitting

VIERA, Fla. (AP) -- Washington Nationals first baseman Adam LaRoche's surgically repaired left shoulder still is not perfect when it comes to throwing a baseball.

As the Nationals get ready for their first official full-squad workout of spring training on Saturday, LaRoche prefers to focus on how well his shoulder feels when he's batting.

LaRoche says "it would be nice to be 100 percent (when) throwing" but he adds that he's "not worried about it."

Coming off a season in which he played only 43 games -- and an offseason when the Nationals pursued free-agent first baseman Prince Fielder -- LaRoche says he no longer feels the sort of lingering pain he did in 2011 when he had to make a hard throw.
