ARLINGTON, Va. (AP) -- There's a whole lot wrong with the Washington Capitals right now.
Alex Ovechkin has a lower body injury that kept him out of practice Thursday and is day-to-day. Karl Alzner said the team wasn't "prepared mentally" for the last two games and had a players'-only meeting to make sure no one was going to "mail it in."
Washington was back home after losing the final three games of a road trip by a combined score of 12-3. The Capitals sit in 10th place in the Eastern Conference and third in the Southeast Division.
The front office has some major decisions to make. The trade deadline is Monday, and general manager George McPhee has to gauge how much of a shakeup is needed to get the team into playoff position.
