Jamaica's Clarke wins 60-meter race at Lievin meet

LIEVIN, France (AP) -- Lerone Clarke of Jamaica held off French sprinter Christophe Lemaitre to win the 60 meters at the Lievin meet Tuesday.

Clarke finished with a world-leading 6.50 seconds, shaving 0.02 off the time he set last weekend in Fayetteville, Ark. Lemaitre, the European sprint champion, had a typical slow start and finished in 6.57. Jamaica's Mickael Frater was third in 6.62.

Yelena Isinbayeva won the pole vault in 15 feet, 9¼ inches and was followed by Cuba's Yarisley Silva (15-5½). The Russian missed three times at 16-1¼, which would have been a world record. Jenny Suhr holds the mark at 16-0.

In the women's 800, Morocco's Malika Akkaoui won in 1:59.01, beating Olympic champion Pamela Jelimo of Kenya at the tape.
