BOSTON (AP) -- When Ryan Hall was starting out as a distance runner, he thought training hard meant running more.
Now he has a little more experience -- including a 2 hour, 4 minute, 58 second run in Boston last year that is the fastest marathon ever run by an American.
And he knows that a big part of training means rest and recovery.
Hall said he's only running six days a week now, and his distance is down from over 120 miles a week to less than 100 miles. He says he needed the confidence that came from his success to understand that he could give himself the proper resting time.
Hall finished second to Meb Keflezighi in the U.S. Olympic marathon trials in Houston last month. They'll represent the country in the London Games, along with third-place finisher Abdi Abdirahman.
